History

of the Central WV Corvette Club

You may wonder, how did the Central West Virginia Corvette Club begin? The idea for the club was started in 1971 by a man named Connor Thompson. Thompson, along with Tom Miller and Johnny Warner, worked at Ingersoll Rand and would discuss the matter of forming a club while at work. Connor started researching the NCCC (National Council of Corvette Clubs) for National Membership so they could have insurance. In order to be eligible to start a club with the NCCC, they needed ten members.

In the fall of 1971, they started forming the Central West Virginia Corvette Club which would initially begin in January of 1972. The charter members were Connor Thompson, Tom Miller, Johnny Warner, Charlie Goff, Eddie Barnette, Rodney Holler and Ton Maxwell. With this only giving them seven of the ten members needed to meet the requirements, they decided to sign up Connor's wife and the girlfriends of two other members. The Corvettes they owned ranged from 1959 to 1971. Within three years all of the members had left except Johnny Walker.

Since the club was formed in 1972, we have had many members come and go but one thing is for certain, we all share the love of America's Sports Car: The CORVETTE!

Special thanks to Johnny Warner and Jim Oliverio for the story.
